Required Auto Insurance in Michigan

Auto Insurance

In Michigan, you are required to have several different types of coverage in your auto insurance policy. To make sure that you get the right auto insurance, call us at America’s Choice Insurance Partners in Wixom, MI to make an appointment to talk to an agent. An agent can go over various coverage types and help you to get the insurance that you need.

Michigan Coverage

There are three main parts that make up the requirements of a Michigan auto insurance policy. These are property protection, personal injury protection, and residual liability. If a policy has all three of these parts in at least the mandatory minimum amounts, their auto insurance is legal for them to drive.

Personal Injury Protection

This type of auto insurance coverage is the medical part of a Michigan auto policy. There are several options that customers can choose from in their PIP. Each of the choices offers a specific amount of coverage as well as offering wage protection in case you can’t work due to injury.

Property Protection

This coverage typically requires having a large amount of property damage coverage. However, this is good only in Michigan. It doesn’t pay for damage to someone else’s property that is out of state. This coverage does pay for any damage done to other cars that are properly parked, but it doesn’t cover other damage to vehicles.

Residual Liability Coverage

This type of coverage covers a mandatory minimum amount of damage that you do to a vehicle outside of Michigan. It also provides liability coverage if someone is injured or killed in an accident.
